After many years thinking about how a healthy society should govern itself, I’ve settled on a number of key reforms that I think would make Britain’s political system fit for a mature society.
Unfortunately, however, none of my attempts to get meaningful reform introduced through existing political processes have made any progress. After seeing the constitutional contortions of the second half of 2019, I have come to the conclusion that the reforms we need cannot happen unless some kind of societal collapse takes place.
Up to now, it’s been hard to see what might precipitate that but I think the measures currently being taken to stave off a repeat of the 1918 flu pandemic do make it look far more plausible.
