About

July 2020

This website was set up by Malcolm Ramsay early in 2017, outlining a draft manifesto for a proposed constitutional reform party, Local Sovereignty. The manifesto advocated a small number of fundamental reforms which would significantly enhance the democratic accountability of government and entrench the principle of the rule of law..

So far, there hasn’t been enough active interest for a new party to be launched, though it seems unlikely that the need for one will go away in the foreseeable future. Trying to get the reforms I advocate debated through the parliamentary petitions system, in 2019, didn’t get anywhere so, unless the courts can be persuaded to order a specially-elected Constitutional Parliament to be convened, I don’t see any chance of worthwhile reform without some kind of societal breakdown.
